This week, I am away in Los Angeles, home to lovely weather and traffic jams. Talking with people around town, it seems the job market has definitely hit a slump--even in the service and hospitality industries that aspiring actors, directors, producers rely on. Restaurants and hotels are laying people off, instead of hiring.
However, skilled labor might receive the Arnie Bump very soon. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is coming to the rescue for the job market and the environment, unveiling a plan to create more green jobs in California.
The idea is to create a 20-month pilot program in at least 10 locations to train at least 1,000 people for jobs such as solar-panel installation and sheet-metal manufacturing for wind turbines, Schwarzenegger said.
I will be looking into the wide array of green jobs. Check back for more news and profiles on this growing industry.
